Are Goldendoodles, Bernedoodles, and Cockapoos prone to shedding? This is a frequently asked question. The simple answer is both yes and no.

How can you determine if the doodle breed you are interested in will shed? Pose the appropriate inquiries and observe indications of non-shedding.

Cockapoos, Goldendoodles, and Bernedoodles were specifically bred for individuals with allergies who wished to have these lovely pets in their lives.

Genetics play a major role in determining the coat of a mixed breed dog. First-generation (or F1) puppies will have 50% of one breed and 50% of the other. This means if your Goldendoodle was born to a Poodle and a Golden Retriever, they have a 50% chance of having the shedding coat of the Retriever or a curlier coat like the Poodle parent.

Multi-Gen doodles, like F2, F3 and so on, are more likely to have a lower chance of a shedding coat if the breeder is breeding ethically and genetically testing all of their breedstock. A "proper coat" is part of the basic genetics panel, which helps in creating healthy generations of dogs.

F1b, F2b, F3b, etc. are options for those with major allergy concerns. The "b" stands for "back", as in F1 back to a poodle, making the puppies 75% poodle. While they are more likely to have a curly coat, the more curlier the coat, the less likely they are to shed.

Each dog is unique, and genetics can often be unpredictable. If you have specific concerns, or if a particular coat type is important to you, it's crucial to communicate with your breeder before placing a deposit on a litter. A reputable breeder will be able to assess the genetics and coats of the parent dogs to ascertain whether the litter can meet your preferences.
